Brooklyn Funk Essentials: Happy

Brooklyn Funk Essentials enter the funk foray with this sophisticated slice of pure groove. This seasoned, well-honed unit is yet again, on the money with this gem of a tune.

The lyrical subject may be worn but, the sentiment is evergreen and lead vocalist Alison Limerick wrings out an emotive, yet soulful delivery racked with real intensity. It’s a mighty and heavily infused slice of disco funk with subtle rhythmic shifts and cool riffs.

This carpet of funk is laid beautifully by the rhythm section and the arrangement ebbs and flows like a dream, sometimes stripped back and sometimes full and fruity with iridescent horns and strings darting like quicksilver. No doubt put there to stir the pot as well as the soul.
