Akasha: The Bell Inn Bath 4/2/23

AK1
AK1 AK2 AK3 AK5

Late 90’s band and former Wall Of Sound artists. Akasha, originally formed by musicians Damian Hand and Charlie Casey, caused a quiet storm in The Bell Inn Bath with their rather special level of mastery honed over the many years of existence. They have some truly remarkable tracks and it was good to hear the stoned-out blessedness of tunes such as "Akasha Theme" and "Smoke. They are well-honed and the ideas presented are rich and varied and were well received by an eager audience.

It’s a superb achievement of mixing electronic dance music featuring ambient manipulation, and jazzy overtones with live playing and drumming. Their clever use of choice samples, that range from Alice Coltrane to Mongo Santamaria, highlight a healthy selection of downright dope ness.

Other highlights included the anthemic "Maximum Karma" (which originally featured Maxi Jazz R.I.P) with its surging 12/8 groove riding high and "The Imposter" a blissed-out slice of downtempo goodness.

This chill and bassy cult band muster a great cinematic feel in a forthright musical manner. It was especially heartwarming to see their music being dug by all age groups in a festival-like atmosphere. The atmosphere in the Bell was electric and it’s good to see this fantastic pub thriving due partly to it being bought by the community for the community. Akasha crowned off a great night had by all in Bath’s best venue. (Props to the sound engineer as well.)
