For those of you who don't know, Nick Gravenites is some what of a heavy in the chicago blues scene cutting his teeth with the legendary Butterfield Blues Band and he's written and worked with luminaries such as Janis Joplin, Howlin' Wolf, Otis Rush, Roy Buchanan, Jimmy Weatherspoon and many others.
Blue Star is a collection of studio and live recordings that show off his indelible skill at writing and playing the Blues, many of which sound like Muddy Waters tunes but are his own original compositions. No wonder this guy was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2003.
The quality of work is evident to see, the self explanatory 'I'm A Blues Man' is my firm favourite. For those of you seeking out a cult 60's blues musician, this album is ideally suited to your tastes. Gravenites is undoubtedly a talented blues gunslinger who has refused to lay down or ride out of town!
