The Hieroglyphics crew return with their fifth album and show no signs of running out of enthusiasm or creativity. Montezuma’s Revenge is a breath of fresh air in the recent slew of mediocre Hip-Hop releases. It’s a testament to their success in keeping old school rap alive and kicking.
The whole album is complex disguised as effortless, the production is tight and the samples are all top notch. In fact, the songs are all of such high standard that it’s hard to pick standout tracks, but when it comes down to it I’d have to steer the listener towards ‘Postal’, ‘Proper Aim’ and ‘Dead Man Walking.’ Prince Paul stays in the background with the producing, leaving the spotlight on Tajai. A-Plus, Opio and Phesto. If you only buy one Hip-Hop album this year etc etc…..
