The casual music observer may have Level 42 down as simply a durable 80s pop act.

But the well-initiated know that there was always a credible jazz-funk-fusion edge to their sound, so it’s not a huge shock to hear one of their better-known tunes re-created in a modern soul style here by Dome’s new Atlanta-based singer/ songwriter. It’s a fairly faithful rendering, with the liveliness of the original replaced by a mature, grown, laid-back style. The result would sound well at home on Radio 2 or Later with Jools Holland, - or in a cosy living room – but it lacks the edge that’s likely to see it cropping up on 1Xtra or Kiss.
