A hate these situations when both sides of a record are killer and you don̢۪t know what to go with. A case in point is this French 45.

I think that both sides are cover-versions – the a-side, I know, was originally done by US bay-area drummer Roy Porter and the other one ‘sounds’ familiar. Both are in the fast Samba Fusion mould and feature a great female singer by the name of Marya Mrozkova.

‘Jessica’ is quite far-removed from the original and, to be honest, I prefer it. It has a ‘4 to the floor’ bass drum going through it ala Nicola Conte’s Samba productions, and, to be honest, that idea is now a little worn-out; even Nicola doesn’t do that now.

The b-side is more in the traditional mode and, to be frank, I cannot wait to see the Jazz Dancers reactions to this. It is absolutely superb and timeless. I have a feeling (in that market) it̢۪s going to be B.I.G!
