A very interesting one this: the Canadian vocalist and pianist has already caused big waves in the jazz dance world over the past couple of years.
Now she’s teamed up with man-of-the-moment Ben Lamdin – the producer and band-leader of experimental jazz group Nostalgia 77, and it shows. Infact I’d go as far as saying, despite her using her regular trio, it actually does sound like a Nostalgia 77 album, so job done (and this suits me. I’m a big fan!).
The song-writing is fantastic and the songs contain some very off-kilter grooves and time signatures – a Lamdin trademark. Over all, it is a very satisfying listen. They were even kind enough to finish the album with a killer jazz dance samba (ala Bunny Brunel – You) called ‘Mirror Living’, which’ll surely get plays at all the right places.
I must say that, if you like your Jazz a little challenging, I would urge you to go and purchase this.
