The finely oiled machine that is the Southport Weekender carries on full steam ahead with album number 7 in what is rapidly becoming one of the classic compilation series of all time.
After bringing heavyweight mixes from the likes of Gilles P and Tony Hunphries in previous editions, it is now the turn of Jazzanova and Mr Scruff to bring their music to the masses and as is now the norm for these albums they deliver big time.
Jazzanova serve up a fine feast of tracks featuring artists as diverse as Badly Drawn Boy to Henrik Schwarz, and if that isn’t enough then wait til you pop CD 2 into the player. Mr Scruff has built a reputation of crate digging of the finest order and his mix contains a mammoth 22 real soul and funk gems with highlights including Clausel’s ‘Let me love you’ and Donna Mchee’s ‘Mr Blind Man’. If Southport is your thing then you’d be insane not to get this.
