It's an odd scenario, being asked to do a cover version of something from "Thriller". In musical terms it's the equivalent of being asked to re-write parts of the Bible!
Go head to head with Mike in his young, feisty, all black, all male, all funky, Quincy Jones produced hey-day and you may as well have asked to step into the ring with Mike Tyson, circa 1992.
Wisely, what Akon has decided to do is keep a fast, syncopated drum pattern synonymous with the original but smooth out the music on top and change up his flow with a few contemporary lyrical changes too. It works well. But then, like the 800lb gorilla in the room, there's always the original to refer back to....
