The usually high standard of Kiss album is sadly missing with this one as it stops, starts and mis-fires with odd track choices on this ULTIMATE mix of R&B, hip-hop and classics.
CD1: Out of the blocks come the number 1 from Estelle feat. Kanye 'American Boy' and then proceeded to run out of steam only touching greatness in the guise of Sean Paul 'Temprapture', Flo-Rida feat T-Pain 'Low', ODB feat Kelis 'Got Your Money', Lupe Fiasco 'Superstar' (Ruined with the 'Kiss Mix tape' jingle) pulling it round at the end with Cassie 'Me and U', Lil'Kim 'Lighters Up', Chris Brown feat T-Pain 'Kiss Kiss' and lightweight last tune Kano feat Craig David 'This is the Girl'.
CD2: Kicks off with style and panache in the shape of Alicia Keys 'Girlfriend', Ne-Yo 'Sexy Love', Cassidy & R Kelly 'Hotel' and J-Kwan 'Tipsy' but falls at the next hurdle (a long way from home) and as you tear up your ticket and are about to kick yourself for backing a donkey you hear J Holiday 'Bed', SWV 'Right Here', TLC 'Creep', Sunshine Anderson 'Heard it all before', House of Pain 'Jump Around' and A Tribe Called Quest 'Can I kick It' that make you feel glad you entered the race at all.
There are some real golden nuggets in this coal face of R&B, Hip-Hop and classics, but I wish I just didn't have to jump so many tracks to get to them nullifying the mix element in 'The Mix Tape.' The mixing is OK by Shortee Blitz, but you come to expect more from both Kiss and Mr B. I would never say they took the money and ran, but it's sure to be playing in your local Woolworths when you visit for your pick 'n' mix... Only trouble is the pick is OK and the mix ain't enough... Kinda leaves you feeling hungry I'm afraid.
