I had the good fortune to hear the Black Grass' album 'Three' before the first single was released and I must say I feel a bit short changed.

With such a diverse album they seem to have gone the easy route with track. 'Bass Man' was a good album track and maybe a single at a (much) later point. It lacks the essence of what Black Grass is about and doesn't showcase the good tunes they have on board.

'Bass Man' is a punchy dub plate stylee, which is light in delivery and may appeal to a more pop-ier market. When the other track on the single is 'Set it Straight-' which drops some proper old school flava, then this should send you running to purchase the album. I'm not saying I don't like the 'Bass Man' track, it's a tasty hors d'oeuvre which in turn leads to a feast of talent, I was just hoping for a different release from a juggernaut of an album.

Brighton's Mex has certainly got a few tricks up his sleeve with this one and his last two albums have seen him come a long way. MC J-Live certainly holds it down on 'Set it Straight' with echo's of MC Ren in attitude and confidence. Bring on the next slice of 'Black Grass.' I'll be waiting...
