We've been following singer/songwriter/producer/actor Bradd Marquis for many years so it's particularly good to see him back and in such fine form. The powerful-voiced vocalist has been quietly chipping away, becoming a concert headliner around the US, with his own material and with his much-lauded Sam Cooke stage show.

It's been three years since Marquis had a hit with "Who Let You Go" but now he is back with a song that delivers such a powerful messageā€¦ "No War" opens with a chant similar to the classic Edwin Starr song "War," which preserves the inherent haunting quality of the song, whilst smoothly riding the organic 'urban' groove. It's a double knockout delight and bang-on topic wise.

There is a distinct quality to many of the songs on "Love" which carry on throughout this diverse, yet beat-oriented album. Blues and gospel influence is apparent too, especially on "The Thrill Has Gone" (not a BB King Cover btw) a hard-edged soulful plea which will appeal to the soul aficionados with long-range and good taste. The production is punchy and spit-polished too, leaving space for Marquis' dulcet and distinctive tones. It's good to see this evolving journeyman staking his rightful claim, for here is a man who lies at the heart of soul.
