Northern Irish blues star Kaz Hawkins has served up a tremendous album of songs made famous by Etta James. James was born Jamesetta Hawkins and Kaz legally changed her name to Hawkins a few years ago to honour Etta, her musical inspiration.

Backed by a powerful 8-piece band and produced by drummer Wayne Proctor, who drives the album perfectly, this is a cracking album. From the rocky, jumping "Spoonful" to the slow New Orleans blues of "St. Louis Blues" and the sultry shuffle of “I Just Wanna Make Love To You”, this album captures the live sound that Hawkins is renowned for.

She recently played her first post-lockdown gig in France, where she now resides. The standout "Blind Girl" with gorgeous sax intro by Richard Beesley brings an intense performance by Hawkins.

This album will get you dancing round the kitchen, wanting to see her live. It gets better and better, and of course it ends with "At Last". If you like the original Ms Hawkins you’ll love this from the new Ms Hawkins.
