Brooklyn Funk Essentials get out of the blocks early and lay down their remit for 2019 with this dope slice of mid tempo disco boogie brilliance. It's the first single to come off their new album ( scheduled for spring) and to feature their new lead singer Alison Limerick who duets so naturally with the wonderful Desmond Foster. These guys have chemistry and sing in real harmony together.
This bumper tune is catchy and the production crisp.A sparse funky bass courtesy of co writer, Lati Kronland, underpins some choice rhodes and warm funky jazz guitar tones with breathy sax and horns adding further sophistication.'No Strings' is sharp as a tack and I love the subtle 80's vibe especially the cheeky nod to Shalamar! Fresh sounding with great ensemble playing these guys are back with a bang! It oozes effortless style.Great to see their return and if this is anything to go by,their forthcoming album should be a real gem.
