Another cracking compilation from reggae specialists Doctor Bird records drops this week in the shape of The Pioneers. Trojan records titans who were extremely successful here in the UK especially with their hit single 'LONG SHOT KICK DE BUCKET.' A jaunty tale of a race horse who managed 203 races before finally kicking the bucket and being immortalised in this upbeat reggae classic!

The Pioneers really are one of Jamaica's finest musical exports and were expertly guided by the legendary producer Leslie Kong (Jimmy Cliff,Bob Marley,Desmond Dekker) who brought the best out of this excellent vocal harmony trio.Marvel at the majestic arrangements of 'LONG UP YOUR MOUTH' and the gospel tinged 'BRING HIM COME' from their debut album 'Long Shot' LP.Full of chinking off beat guitars, organ and interlocking rhythms and calming hymn like melodies, matching the magnificence of early Wailers material pound for pound.

Included on this 30 track cd is their follow up album 'Battle Of The Giants' never released before on CD and its stark clarity takes you to the very heart of The Pioneers, filled with impassioned harmonies giving the listener a sense of hope, faith and positivity.Basically, this is essential listening to an art form that has kept its freshness, relevance and impact from the day it was released.A reggae chronicle of a dream that worked!
