When it comes to funk bands such as Funkadelic,Earth Wind & Fire,The Ohio Players,The Isley Brothers,Kool And The Gang and the Brothers Johnson there are quite a few that spring to mind.Well one more should be added to the canon, namely Lakeside, granted their name sounds like a shopping centre near blue water but don't let that deter you! They are the creme de la creme of edgy moves and grooves.

Robinsongs have released three exceptional Lakeside albums on a Double CD release, “Your Wish Is My Command”, “Keep On Moving Straight Ahead” and “Untouchables” plus bonus tracks. Lakeside were once described as “The Rolling Stones Of Funk” by lead vocalist Thomas Shelby in a recent interview with Funk Chronicles, “We didn’t have a ton of major hits, but nobody wanted to come on after us”. But the hits they did have all became funk anthems and they are all included here on this exceptional platter.

Included on the 1981's “Your Wish Is My Command” is the Top 5 R&B Hit ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’, a Beatles classic, given a slow ballad tempo and a luxurious gospel feel as well as the single ‘Something About That Woman’.One thing to notice is the musical progression of the band they became much more adventurist with longer, harder grooves and some fantastic twin guitar lines seldom heard in funk! And CD 2 you get a these fantastic funk instrumentals and rarities, that include KEEP ON MOVING STRAIGHT AHEAD (12” VERSION) and the groovy RAID (7” SINGLE VERSION)

This all follows on from the Double CD release of three other great Lakeside albums “Shot Of Love”, “Rough Riders” and “Fantastic Voyage” too thus completing the absorbing output this enterprising funk band contributed.UK funk fans it's time to dig deeper and check out Lakeside and luxuriate in their lush grooves and excellent 80's sounding production.Lakeside are a must buy for any fans who have not come across them, do yourself a favour and fuel the flames of funk once more!
