Elvin Bishop’s latest album, “Elvin Bishop’s Big Fun Trio” features him on guitar and vocals with Bob Welsh on guitar and piano and Willy Jordan on South American percussion instrument the Cajon and vocals.

The album has a stripped down “live” good-time feel with the trio sounding like they are having a ball. Charlie Musselwhite wails harmonica and joins in with Bishop recounting tales of playing in Chicago in the 60s on the excellent “100 Years Of Blues” while Fabulous Thunderbirds’ front man Kim Wilson blows-up a storm on the rocking “It’s You Baby” and Rick Estrin of The Night Cats takes on harmonica duties for the instrumental “Delta Lowdown”.

Alongside Bishop’s infectious good humoured originals, the band take on Lightnin’ Hopkins’ “Honey Babe” and The Valentinos’ Bobby Womack penned “It’s All Over Now” , made famous by the Stones 1964 cover version. Bishop’s Big Fun Trio create an extremely enjoyable rollicking rhythm and blues party here and sound like they would bring the house down live.
