The Delfloristics Ft. Gary B Poole: And She (Sed Soul Records)

Denmark isn’t the most obvious country you’d associate with soulful house or neo-soul, but it’s exactly where The Defloristics hail from. This two piece production duo is made up of Frank Ryle and Rob Hardt. When I was sent this track, I was a little dubious as like I mentioned before, I wouldn’t link Denmark with soul.

The Defloristics latest release "And She" however proves me wrong about the Danes though, as it has soul aplenty! We start off with the Electrified Mix, and immediately I am thrown back to early and mid-eighties music, such as D-Train, Mantronix and even Loose Ends. The mix starts with a nice four to the floor beat that I’m guessing runs at around 118bpm, but the bassline seems to slow everything down really well, which gives this its more soul led flavour. We like this readers!

This track builds and the hypnotic voice of Gary Poole (singer and member of UK soul trio Soul Talk) is introduced. The song carries itself really well; it doesn’t build but grooves along consistently and keeps your attention and foot tapping. I love this b-line, it has addictiveness about it.

Next mix is the Neo Philly Main Mix which is tougher and more house orientated than its brother. From the very outset, a rough and ready back beat starts before the keys and bass of a decent soulful house release introduce themselves to you. They’ve done a good job on this mix, keeping it a separate entity from the Electrified Mix.

Hang on, what’s that? 3m 11s, am I hearing xylophone and immediately thinking Roy Ayers? I sure am! This is a lovely little surprise on the track and adds to the flavour of the release.

I’m impressed with this package, I think both mixes are of a very high quality and I for one will be playing them out on my travels.
