Sampling one part 1940’s style jazz with two parts rap doesn’t happen very often and when it does happen it’s usually terrible. Top marks then for Big Band Theory which tastefully does what most fail to do.

Bristol attitude runs throughout this little eight track release, “its war on keyboards” they say, indeed it is. That said, I ‘m hope the coupling of styles ends here. It would be depressing to think of a near future where Tinchy Stryder and Dizzee Rascal are cashing in on the idea and bombarding the charts with grime laden with Duke Ellington samples.

‘I’d Rather Be’ is a stand out track which sums up their ethos; being yourself instead of believing the hype, keeping dreams alive, staying true to yourself. Ah, Hip Hop with real morals and messages. Get it while you can.
