Heavy hitter and bone splitter Nils Langdren, a swedish sonic sensation in my book comes up trumps again with this rather fitting platter.
His band Funk Unit soon get into to a rootsy, raw groove with kicking tracks such as 'Funk For Life' and 'Finish What You Started'. Tightly honed funk nuggets have been lovingly crafted by this gifted bunch of scandinavian souleros, it's all here blistering trombone, deep in the pocket drumming, crisp and choice guitar melded together by floaty keyboards.
Nils voice sounds on it too and the vocal harmonies that weave in and out of his compositions really add a touch of class to this already funk enflamed flagship. Highlight for me is "Matutu" the dirty synth, reminiscent of funkadelic really steals the show and Nils treated trombone just adds its own special flava to this bangin' broth!
Nils has worked with many top names such as Thad Jones, Eddie Harris, Maceo Parker and The crusaders which explains his indomitable spirit. Which explains why he is exactly the type of guy who relishes in getting involved with Medecins Sans Frontieres who are doing great things in Africa. Nils project to inspire and nourish children with music making has already seen some incredible results and one euro from each cd sold will be donated to the aid organisation for this unique project in Kibera, Nairobi, one of the biggest slums in Africa. Commendable stuff, check out this cd Nils and the boys are totally focussed on the funk and for making it everbody's birthright!
