Neil Cowley trio kick of their new association with the Naim Label and waste no time getting stuck into their quasi Rock anthemic jazz strewn maelstrom music.
Take the first track 'Monoface' moody evocative intro then all hell breaks loose, these boys are the masters of dynamics and the trio gel as one driven by the ever propulsive and exciting drums of Evan Jenkins. Much like the Portico Qt, pastorally speaking, they defy being pigeon holed - to them the coop means death!
Title Track 'Radio Silence' is beautiful and haunting evoking the same euphoria as say some of the priceless tunes of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra. Film directors check these boys out their music speaks!
Like Esbjörn Svensson, Cowley's language is clear and bold especially on 'Vice Skating' and it most definitely permeates the psyche with it's arppegiated strokes in the wake of it's haunting iridescence and their crescendo is breathtaking!
The tunes keep flowing on this impressive album and behold at last someone to challenge the mighty ECM! Go see them at Ronnie Scott's 31st May, they will tear the pace asunder
