Southport Weekender 49 DJ line-up

Southport Weekender 49
Southport Weekender 49

It’s that time of the year again when a couple of thousand people are constantly contacting each other online, posting message after message in certain Facebook groups and waiting with a heightened sense of anticipation for a very specific announcement.

I am of course referring to May’s Southport Weekender and the live acts they announce.

Southport has practically sold out, there are a scarce few tickets remaining but you can bet your bottom dollar, these would have gone before the end of February.

DJ wise this year, Southport have gone by their usual very high standards and booked the crème de la crème of DJ’s.

Dennis Ferrer, Prosumer, DJ Sneak, Black Coffee, Kerri Chandler, Lee Foss, Spen & Karizma, Miguel Campbell, Sean McCabe and Steve Butler all take the reins of the Powerhouse with an unbelievable finale on the Sunday that goes by the name of Body and Soul! Messrs Francois K, Jo Claussell and Danny Krivit will close the Powerhouse on Sunday and if I said I wasn’t even a little bit excited about that, I’d be lying!

The Funkbase crowd are in for a treat too. DJ Cash Money, David Rodigan, Goldie, DJ EZ, Shortee Blitz, Ronnie Herel, CJ Beatz, DJ MK, Firin Squad, Steve Wren, Bigger, JP, Mr Burnz and Mike Panteli hold court in this room.

The Beat Bar….ahhh, my home amongst homes at the weekender and who have we got in here then? Ron Trent, Move D, Andres, Recloose, Gilles Peterson, Benji B, Atjazz, DJ Lefto, Phil Asher, Kev Beadle and Gavin Kendrick is who! There is also a live session by Mala in Cuba whom I had the great pleasure of watching recently at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Music Awards.

Southport wouldn’t be Southport without Connoisseur’s Corner and this room has a very eclectic programme. Dimitri from Paris, Horsemeat Disco, Rich Medina, Kon, Paul Trouble Anderson, 6th Borough Project, Sadar Bahar, The Mighty Zaf, Andy Davies, Bob Jeffries and Terry Jones.

The SuncéBeat Dome…my other home at Southport, surrounded by my Dalmatian friends…I don’t mean they are canines, I mean the people who attend the SuncéBeat festival in Croatia. Rocking this room are Karizma, Souldynamic, Luis Radio, Mark Stone, Phil Asher, Gavin Kendrick, Jonny Miller, Martin Lodge, Paul Stuart, Craig Bartlett, Lil Stevie and Andy Ward.

Throw in some after party action from Trevor Nelson, Ralf Gum, Grant Nelson, Craig Smith, Ronnie Herel, Atjazz, Phil Asher, Kev Beadle, Steve Butler and JP and it is now you might understand why I take off Friday, Monday and Tuesday for Southport!
