The Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival

The Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival has reached its 33rd year! From Friday 22 July to Sunday July 31, Edinburgh hosts a diverse and exciting range of high quality jazz and blues events, with an emphasis on creative projects, special one-offs, UK exclusives and world premieres.

This year’s Festival brings musicians from India, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, USA, Sweden, Brazil, Denmark, England, Russia, Italy, Norway, Germany, Venezuela, Holland and of course Scotland, to play across the City’s venues – from small jazz clubs to major concert halls. Exciting new locations this year include a glamorous trio of venues in the Spiegel Village and clubbers favourite, The Bongo Club.

Amongst the highlights are stars such as Jack Bruce, Courtney Pine, Robert Cray, Curtis Stigers, Ken Peplowski, Leroy Jones and Trombone Shorty. There’s a nostalgic homage to the music of Stan Getz; a strong contingent of musicians from New Orleans; collaborations with India and Italy; a spotlight on the burgeoning Swedish jazz scene (including Magnus Ostrom’s Band, and Lina Nyberg singing offbeat West Side Story); and nurturing our own exciting talent, there’s an excellent Scottish Jazz Expo line-up.

The opening weekend includes the ever-popular Mardi Gras in the Grassmarket - enjoy three hours of non-stop music on multiple stages, including Fraser Speirs and Eddie Walker, Lorna Reid, Laurie Chescoe, Hamish Mcgregor’s Jazz & Co, Rosy Blue’s blues band, and Royal Park Rent Party.

Courtney Pine kicks off the Festival and the fantastic singer & saxophonist Curtis Stigers closes ten days later. Over 90 events across 12 venues cover all jazz styles and lots of blues. The Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival may be 33, but it’s as current and vital as ever.
