Orbital headline GuilFest Friday July 16th 2010
O happy day! B&S can this year safely bring you news on GilFest - Normally one to swerve as the band content is slightly (shall we say) heavier than we can normally report on. Orbital are on point on Friday July 16 - so full GuilFest details to follow...
ORBITAL, the grand masters of British Electronica (we cover that in dance don't you know), who have notched up 14 top 40 singles, and 7 Top 40 albums - will be bringing their legendary live set to Stoke Park for the first time at GuilFest 2010 on Friday 16th July.
We saw them headlining the Big Chill last year and have to say them Malven hills never looked so cool as the ambient sounds of Orbital washed over us (and no I'm not a hippie!?). Other live highlights include their 1994 Glastonbury performance (see 'Chime' performance from Glastonbury below) which earned the band a Q magazine award as one of the 50 greatest gigs of all time, and this year they are well deserved winners of DJ Magazine’s ‘Live Act Of The Year’ Award 2009 as voted by the public.
If you're not to ofay with the boys then here's a lil' bit more about them; Orbital, who formed in 1989 are creators of some of the best known UK dance anthems in musical history; most notably 'Chime', 'Style', 'Belfast', 'The Box' and 'Satan' (I'd sing em to ya, but I'm not great at instrumentals!?). They were named after the London ring road that took their generation to illegal raves, the Hartnoll brothers from Sevenoaks are considered to be true innovators of techno music (the A225 was also on their list apparently as it goes to Sevenoaks from Tonbridge - not got the same 'ring' to it though if you forgive the pun).
Orbital join already announced headliners The Human League and Status Quo (see I told you!), who will perform on Saturday 17th July, and Sunday 18th July respectively. Other festival attractions include the nationally acclaimed Dance Tent, nominated for “Best Dance Event” award at the 2009 UK festival awards (a stage that has seen past performances from Pendulum, DJ Yoda, Krafty Kuts and Xpress2 amongst others), the Rock Cave, the Acoustic Stage, The Rock Disco, the 70s disco, the eFestivals Cosmic Comedy Stage, The Man In The Moon Theatre Tent, The UNISONzone, and the incredibly popular Farmer Giles’ Barn Dance. As well as all this you can expect superb cocktail bars, street performers, great arts and crafts, a fabulous selection of food from around the world and, as usual, the massive 150’ long bar means nobody has to wait very long for refreshment!
