Free devine jazz in the heart of London on Sunday Dec 13th
Who needs for Songs Of Praise on Sunday night, as we bring you news of a Jazz event in the centre of London that we've been praying for... literally! A mixture of jazz + a christian mass = 'Jazz Mass' and it's FREE - should bring them flocking we think...
The place to be on Sunday 13th December is the Church of St Anne (no it's not in a fully blown medieval church - I swear on the Bible!?), the address 55 Dean Street, AND the time to make your presence felt is 7.00pm.
This is the third in a monthly series of events, which brings the sound of music to the jazz faithful by the medium of the multi-talented Cave-King Jazz Mass. This evening will feature acclaimed soloists in the guise of Duncan Eagles, international star Aki Päivärinne, and Soho favourite Alison Beck. As this event continues to thrive, there have already been commissions for performances in churches and clubs throughout London and Manhattan.
The service takes place just a stones throw from Ronnie Scotts, and will be led by Fr David Gilmore, Rector of Soho: "The Jazz Mass is the perfect way to get a little Eternity into your Sunday". Fr David also sums up the atmosphere on this evening thus. "Take the timeless dignity of the Christian mass, the immediacy and drive of improvised jazz, combined with the dim glamour of St Anne, and you end up with a powerful, unique experience in the heart of Soho."
I can only echo Fr David's sentiments as this momentum gathering jazz event is not to be missed... I just wonder if they take requests?... 'Faith' maybe, or 'He/She Moves In Mysterious Ways', how about touch of Like A Prayer', or 'Keep The Faith' even? - OK I think you got the point!?... Full details below...
