TRICKY STARTS OWN LABEL
Tricky has teamed up with his former Island Records mentor Chris Blackwell to launch 'Brown Punk', a new music and entertainment label.
For starters the label is releasing 'Tricky Presents' featuring a brand new track from Tricky, alongside tracks by The Gospel featuring Kira, The Dirty and Laid Blak, the Brown Punk album is available to buy digitally from all online retailers.
“I’ve been lucky enough to have some great influences and mentors in my music career and I want to be able to spend time with acts and introduce them to the industry,” explained Tricky. “Music today has become less about the artist and more about churning out hits. Brown Punk represents a positive movement where you find intellectuals mixing with the working class, rock mixing with reggae and indie mixing with emo.”
On top of the album release Tricky will release 'Brown Punk: The Movie'. To celebrate the birth of Brown Punk, Tricky has directed an edgy, faux drama about the launch of the label which features many of the artists signed. The film will be released online and can be purchased in chapters (there are nine in total). The first two will be given away for free from late April, with the remaining 7 chapters costing £1.49 each. (That doesn't sound tricky at all!?:)
