On 20th April 2007 pianist and composer Andrew Hill lost his battle against lung cancer, aged 75.

Making his Blue Note debut as band leader in 1963 with ‘Black Fire', he went on to record classic jazz albums such as Point of Departure Judgment! And Passing Ships.

Alfred Lion described him as my last protégée. His 2006 return to the label ‘Time Lines', which he referred to as coming full circle, was hailed as a triumph. Despite being diagnosed with a terminal illness, Andrew always approached the future with enthusiasm.

He will be dearly missed.
