It is generally a rule of thumb that when you are a warm-up act supporting one of the biggest names in music on this planet, you almost play the role of a bit part player before the main event. If you are lucky people will politely applaud, if not they will ignore or just talk over you while you sing. However, this was not the case with young and up-coming Laura Izibor.

She may have only graced the stage at Brixton Academy for half an hour or so but she certainly got a taste of the big time. At the time she was due on stage, the house was already virtually full in anticipation of the arrival of John Legend, so this was no small feat keeping the crowd entertained.

Maybe, it was the similar hair, but seeing her on-stage but I could not help but being reminded of Corinne Bailey-Rae. Although the voices of the two are very different there was some connection in the chilled out styled soul of the two artists. As she at her keyboard, songs like 'Mmm' brought in an additional gospel element into the set and received a very enthusiastic reception from the cavernous crowd. Technically, most of the set was well executed apart from a small section in the middle of the set where she went faintly off-key (maybe a sound problem), but with the help of a very competent backing band recovered well from this slight mishap.

Overall a creditable job in which the song that stood out most was the feel-good factor number - 'Shine'. Laura Izibor already has the key ingredients for success and her live can only become more polished with time.
