Live
Lisa Stansfield: G Live, Guildford, Surrey 22/10/19
Touring with a superb ten-piece band, including leading percussionist/bandleader Snowboy, to celebrate thirty years since the release of her critically acclaimed, top-selling album “Affection”. Lisa Stansfield completely wowed a capacity Guildford audience.
Stansfield was in sparkling form and as usual in good humour, which interspersed her set perfectly, as she performed her “Affection” album in its entirety with songs included “Mighty Love”, “Sincerity” and “What Did I Do For You”.
The audience took its time to warm up, mostly remaining in their seats for the first ten tracks. If there is ever an artist who should be playing standing venues then it is Stansfield. She fervently encourages people to get out of their seats but people are reticent to do this unless others do.
Once “All Around The World” was performed, this got everyone up and moving, much to the delight of Stansfield, there was a party atmosphere all the way to the magnificent encore of "This Is The Right Time" and "Live Together".
While the band laid down a smooth groove her two backing vocalists complimented Stansfield’s voice with rich harmonies and even throwing in some nifty coordinated moves on “Never Ever”.
Stansfield is one of the best R&B/Soul talents to come out of the UK and at this show, we all enjoyed the talents of an artist who is bang in form.
