Jacob Banks: O2 Forum, Kentish Town, London 28/3/18

The first time I saw Jacob Banks perform, he was doing a short support slot for Musiq Soulchild. "Worthy" had just broken and marked him as one of the country's most exciting young talents… Fast forward four years and Banks is now at the top of the bill, selling out the Kentish Town Forum - no mean feat.

It was obvious when I first saw him that he had plenty of potential, and as soon as he took to the stage in London he set about showing that he's fulfilling it.

An early performance of "Worthy" gave a nod to his early career, while the excellent "Monster" showed why so many people are excited about him. His voice is stunning, and at points in the show the crowd was silent and in awe, with people ordering drinks at the bar being shushed. "Part Time Love", "Pilot" and a moving version of "Homecoming" gave an astonishing demonstration of his vocal range… He seemed genuinely surprised at the lengthy applause he received, but there was no doubting it was deserved.

Banks is an incredible performer, well worth the plaudits coming his way. "Silver Lining" and "Unknown" were highlights in a set full of highlights, and the excellent "Chainsmoking" was met with huge applause.

The 26-year-old has a massive future ahead of him. If you get the chance, check him out live, you won't be disappointed.
