BEYONCE: LIVE @ WEMBLEY ARENA: LONDON, 03.06.07
Opening the show with hit song 'Crazy in Love' – donning a sexy silver mini-dress – Beyoncé had evidently become ‘Sasha’ (her diva-like alter-ego), as she strutted around the stage in true superstar style shaking that renowned booty to dramatic effect.
She gave the obligatory we-love-you-London greeting, thanking her audience for coming out to enjoy “the Beyoncé experience,” before shaking her thang along with her three female backing dancers, who were aptly dressed a la Dreamgirls. She then launched into high-energy number, 'Freakum Dress', causing the all-attentive crowd to marvel at how she’s able to jump continuously in a serious pair of heels! I guess true superstars can do practically anything.
Backed by an all-female band, each lady, of course, had their chance to shine whilst Beyoncé was backstage for various outfit changes. One of the drummers (yes, Beyonce had two drummers and a percussionist), wowed the crowd with a flashy drum solo– delivered whilst eating a few grapes, a banana, and a French stick bread roll. All very provocative, of course, for all the male attendees.
There appeared to be a minor glitch just before Beyoncé’s rendition of 'Baby Boy', when one of the male dancers accompanying her first re-entry to the stage, suddenly ran backstage and returned with Beyoncé’s microphone. Let’s hope he didn’t get a right bollocking for not having the mic earlier! Popular tracks 'Naughty Girl' and 'Me Myself And I' were handled with style and panache by B and then it was time for the now another obligatory costume change. Glamour, fine music and a series of dazzling costumes all dutifully lapped up by her adoring wannabees.
Returning in a long gold dress, the vocal dramatics began as she belted out the ballad, 'Dangerously In Love', followed by 'Flaws And All. She ended the latter in floods of tears, (reliable sources tell me that the tears were part of the show– she cried at exactly the same point the night before as well), before a male dancer – dressed as an angel – descended onto the stage and hugged her with his big white wings! Ahhhh...
There were a couple more outfit changes and impressive renditions of hits including 'Upgrade You' and 'Irreplaceable', before Beyoncé ended the set with the hit 'Déjà Vu' (no, Jay-Z wasn’t present to drop his verse.) Arguably one of the hardest working women in R’n’B, Beyoncé worked the stage, wowed the crowd and made the ‘experience’ pretty unforgettable.
