INTRODUCING: DEAD DISCO

Dead Disco
Dead Disco

The eclectic, up and coming all-female trio from up north give us a roundup of their past, present and future prospects…

B&S: Introduce yourselves please...
DD: We are Victoria (vocals/ keyboards), Lucy (guitar) and Marie (bass/ backing vocals).

B&S: Dead Disco...where did you get the name?
DD: We put a load of words in a hat and picked them out in pairs. This was one of the best ones so we stuck with it. It was going to be either Dead Disco or something like Electric Tiger!

B&S: How would you describe the band's sound to those who aren’t familiar with you?
DD: Futuristic pop music!

B&S: Do you have any standout musical influences?
DD: Comic books, Nandos, Nintendo, Frankenstein, Dracula, tea, tea and more tea! Musically there isn't really anything we can name directly as we are all individually into a really broad variety of music. We are trying to make music that doesn't sound like anyone else we can think of!

B&S: Is there anyone in particular that you'd like to work with?
DD: I think Lucy's dream would be to work with Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac; he is a big hero of hers! In the studio we have already had the chance to work with some great people, we have a session coming up soon with Barry Dobbin who was in the band Clor. We're really looking forward to that.

B&S: Best and worst gig you've played?
DD: Best was probably Leeds Festival 2006. Just an amazing day and experience. The worst? We don’t want to name names but there was a place on the last tour that was very bizarre. Put it this way, it had no roof and a sandpit!

B&S: Is there any particular moment that stands out as the band's most memorable or special one?
DD: I think playing live on Radio 1 pretty early on was an amazing opportunity and I think even now when we hear Steve Lamacq's voice on air we all get a bit nervous! Signing our record deal was also pretty special.

B&S: So what's next for you guys?
DD: Next we are heading out to LA to start/ finish our debut album. We have lots of work to do on that, and then hopefully we will be touring again after the summer!
